Everyday Arias [working title] is a new series of on-site creations that emerge from the dialogue between private life and public actions, intimacy and expression. An inspiring location, a team of trusted collaborators, and a close exchange between artists and audiences: with these ingredients, Meg Stuart creates a collective experience that invites us to slow down and pay attention.
In a first iteration of the series, Meg Stuart and her team travelled to Outpost Flørli, a performative retreat nestled on the edge of the Lysefjord in Norway and accessible only by boat. For five days, they lived and worked together in a small house surrounded by the rugged landscape of the fjord.
Out of this shared experience a performance emerged in which roles continually shift and everyday actions become shared rituals. Set against a cacophony of household appliances that gradually gives way to the sweeping orchestral compositions of Puccini and Monteverdi, the choreography evolves from dysfunction and disconnection towards care and presence.
